Happy Thanksgiving

Once again we are getting ready to celebrate more goodness and bounty bestowed upon us than we deserve from such a great and gracious God.

This day has traditions that are from the New Englanders first celebrations; we are after all an English-speaking people. However the first community act of religion and thanksgiving in the first permanent [European] settlement in the land was not in the New England colonies, as we have no doubt all been told by our government educators.

"On September 8, 1565 Pedro Menéndez de Avilés and his 800 Spanish settlers founded the settlement of St. Augustine in La Florida, the landing party celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving, and, afterward, Menéndez laid out a meal to which he invited as guests the native Seloy tribe who occupied the site." - go read the rest of this short piece on history - The actual First Thanksgiving in America!
